Decimal hours
Decimal hours are common in payroll, timesheets and project tracking. For example, 2.5 hours equals 150 minutes, not 2 hours and 5 minutes.
Example
3.25 hours equals 195 minutes and 11,700 seconds. The .25 part of an hour is 15 minutes.
When this matters
Use decimal-hour conversion for timesheets, billing, study plans, workouts and project estimates. It helps avoid mistakes when hours are entered as decimals.
Common mistakes
Do not read 1.30 hours as 1 hour and 30 minutes. In decimal form, 1.30 hours is 1 hour and 18 minutes.
