Waste factor matters
Flooring projects need extra material for cuts, layout, defects and future repairs. Patterned tile and diagonal layouts usually need more waste than simple plank layouts.
Example
For 500 square feet with 10% waste, adjusted material area is 550 square feet. At 6 per square foot for material and 4 per square foot labor, estimated total is 5,300.
Common mistakes
Check whether labor is charged on actual floor area or adjusted material area. Also include underlayment, trim, transitions and disposal if they are not in the price.
