What changes deck cost most
Deck size, material choice, stairs, railing, footings, local permits and demolition can change real quotes substantially. This calculator is a planning estimate, not a contractor bid.
Example
For a 300 square foot deck, material at 18 per square foot with 10% waste gives 5,940 in material cost. Labor at 25 per square foot adds 7,500, and 1,000 in permits or extras brings the planning total to 14,440.
Common mistakes
Do not forget railing, stairs, footings, hardware, demolition, delivery and waste. Complex shapes and elevated decks can cost much more than a simple ground-level rectangle.
Limitations
Local code, soil conditions, frost depth, permit requirements and contractor availability can change the real price. Use this estimate to compare scenarios before requesting quotes.
