Grade calculator

Final Grade Calculator

Find the final exam score needed to reach a target course grade.

Check your syllabus first

This calculator assumes the current grade excludes the final exam and that the final exam weight is entered as a percentage of the whole course. Some courses drop lowest scores, curve grades or use category rules that change the result.

Example

If your current grade is 82%, your target is 90%, and the final is worth 30%, the needed final score is (90 - 82 x 0.70) / 0.30 = 108.7%. That target is not reachable without extra credit or a curve.

Common mistakes

Do not enter the final weight as 0.30 if the field asks for percent; enter 30. Also confirm whether your current grade already includes part of the final project or exam category.

Limitations

The result follows the formula shown on the page. It does not account for dropped scores, extra credit caps, grading curves or institution-specific grade policies.
