Resolution is not image quality
Megapixels describe pixel count. Lens quality, sensor size, noise, focus, dynamic range and compression can matter more than raw pixel count.
Example
An image that is 4,000 by 3,000 pixels contains 12,000,000 pixels, which is 12 megapixels.
How to use the result
Use megapixels to compare image dimensions or estimate file and print requirements. It does not tell you whether the image is sharp or well exposed.
Limitations
This calculator does not account for aspect ratio needs, print DPI, compression, sensor quality or cropping.
