Fence Panel Calculator

Estimate fence panels after subtracting gates or openings.

Planning note

Panel count is only one part of fence planning. Posts, corners, gates, slopes, local rules and property-line checks can materially change the project.

Example

A 160 ft fence line with one 4 ft gate leaves 156 ft to panel. With 8 ft panels, 156 / 8 = 19.5, so the estimate rounds up to 20 panels.

Common mistakes

Do not forget gate openings, end posts, corner posts and sloped sections. Some layouts also need cut panels rather than full-width panels throughout.

Limitations

This calculator estimates panel count only. It does not estimate posts, concrete, fasteners, permits, terrain work or local boundary requirements.
