Volume Calculator

Calculate the space inside a sphere, cylinder or rectangular prism.

For a sphere use radius only. For a cylinder use radius and height. For a rectangular prism use length, width and height.

Volume depends on consistent units

Use the same unit for all dimensions. If you enter centimeters, the result is cubic centimeters. If you enter meters, the result is cubic meters.

Example

A rectangular prism with length 5, width 4 and height 3 has volume 5 x 4 x 3 = 60 cubic units.

Common mistakes

Volume is cubic, not square. It measures space inside a shape, while surface area measures the outside.

Limitations

The formulas assume idealized geometric solids. Containers with wall thickness, rounded edges or irregular shapes need more specific measurement.
