Speed Calculator

Calculate average speed from distance and time.

Average speed

This calculator reports average speed across the whole interval. It does not show peak speed, moving average or stopped-time splits.

Example

If you travel 100 distance units in 1 hour and 30 minutes, the time is 1.5 hours and the average speed is 66.67 distance units per hour.

Input tips

Use the distance unit you want in the output. If distance is miles, the result is miles per hour. If distance is kilometers, the result is kilometers per hour.

Common mistakes

Do not enter minutes as a decimal hour unless the form asks for decimal hours. Thirty minutes is 0.5 hours, but in this calculator it belongs in the minutes field.
