Method
This page assumes the entered speed is the average speed for the full interval. It is useful for simple travel planning, classroom motion problems and quick reasonableness checks.
Example
At an average speed of 60 miles per hour for 2 hours, distance is 60 x 2 = 120 miles. If you use kilometers per hour and hours, the result is kilometers.
Common mistakes
Keep the time unit aligned with the speed unit. If speed is in km/h, enter time in hours, so 30 minutes should be entered as 0.5 hours.
Limitations
Real routes include stops, speed limits, elevation, traffic and acceleration. Add practical buffers when using the result for planning.
