Glossary

TDEE

TDEE means total daily energy expenditure, an estimate of daily energy use.

Plain-language meaning

TDEE usually combines resting energy needs with activity. It is commonly estimated as BMR multiplied by an activity factor.

How it affects calculator results

TDEE is often used as a maintenance-calorie estimate. The activity factor is usually the least precise input, so a TDEE result should be checked against real intake, weight trend and activity pattern over time.

What to check

  • Check whether the calculator starts from BMR or from a measured energy estimate.
  • Choose the activity level conservatively if daily movement is low outside workouts.
  • Do not treat a TDEE estimate as a diet prescription.

Limitations

Activity multipliers are broad approximations. Individual energy needs can differ substantially.

FAQ

Is TDEE the same as BMR?

No. BMR is resting energy use; TDEE adds activity and daily movement.

Why can TDEE estimates differ?

Different calculators may use different BMR equations, activity multipliers or goal adjustments.
