If 10,000 grows to 14,500 and you received 800 in dividends, total return is (14,500 + 800 - 10,000) / 10,000 = 53%. Over 5 years, the annualized return is about 8.9%.
Common mistakes
Be consistent about dividends. Total return usually includes dividends, while price return does not. Also use the same currency and date basis for starting and ending values.
