Ratios and units
Ratios compare quantities. Keep units consistent before simplifying; 2 meters to 50 centimeters should be converted before treating it as a pure ratio.
Example
The ratio 24:36 simplifies to 2:3 because both parts can be divided by 12. With a scale multiplier of 10, the scaled ratio becomes 20:30.
Common mistakes
Do not simplify values with different units until the units match. Also avoid rounding too early when ratios are used in recipes, maps or technical measurements.
Limitations
This calculator handles two-part ratios. Multi-part ratios, proportions with unknown variables and unit conversions may need a separate setup.
