Calculate parallelogram area using base and perpendicular height.
Height is perpendicular
The slanted side is not the height unless it is perpendicular to the base. Use the vertical distance between the parallel sides.
Example
If the base is 12 and the perpendicular height is 7, the area is 12 x 7 = 84 square units.
How to use the result
Use parallelogram area for a slanted rectangle-like shape where opposite sides are parallel. It is equivalent to cutting and shifting the shape into a rectangle with the same base and height.
Common mistakes
Do not multiply the base by the slanted side unless that side is perpendicular to the base. Use the true height.
