Arithmetic versus geometric
Arithmetic sequences add the same difference each step. Geometric sequences multiply by the same ratio each step.
Example
An arithmetic sequence starting at 2 with a difference of 3 gives 2, 5, 8, 11, 14 and 17 for the first six terms.
Input tips
For arithmetic mode, the difference is added each time. For geometric mode, the ratio is multiplied each time. A ratio below 1 makes the terms shrink toward zero if the sequence continues.
Common mistakes
Do not use the arithmetic difference as a geometric ratio. Also keep the count reasonable if you want a readable list of terms.
