Moving estimate

Moving Boxes Calculator

Estimate the number of boxes for a move using a home-size mix.

What changes the box count

Book collections, kitchen items, storage rooms, wardrobes and whether movers supply wardrobe boxes can change the real count substantially.

Example

One one-bedroom home starts from a 35-box baseline. With a 15% extra allowance, the estimate becomes 40.25, so you would plan for about 41 boxes.

Common mistakes

Do not count bedrooms only. Garages, home offices, hobby equipment, fragile kitchenware and books can add many more boxes than the bedroom count suggests.

Limitations

This calculator estimates ordinary moving boxes only. It does not include wardrobe boxes, crates, furniture pads, specialty packing, movers' rules or actual inventory counts.
