Chemistry concentration

Molarity Calculator

Calculate moles per liter of solution.

Volume means final solution volume

Molarity is based on the final volume of solution, not just the amount of solvent added before mixing.

Example

If 0.5 moles of solute are dissolved to make 2 liters of final solution, molarity is 0.5 / 2 = 0.25 M.

Common mistakes

Do not use milliliters as liters unless you convert first. 500 mL is 0.5 L. Also distinguish moles from grams; grams must be converted using molar mass before calculating molarity.

Limitations

This calculator handles the basic concentration formula. It does not account for temperature effects, activity coefficients, dissociation, lab uncertainty or safety procedures.
