Choose the missing value
Many density questions start with two known values and one unknown. Use the mode selector to find mass from density and volume, density from mass and volume, or volume from mass and density.
Example
If density is 5 kg/L and volume is 2 L, mass is 10 kg. If mass is 10 kg and volume is 2 L, density is 5 kg/L.
Common mistakes
Keep units compatible. Density in kg/m3 and volume in liters must be converted before multiplying if you want kilograms.
Assumptions and limitations
Density can change with temperature, pressure and composition. This calculator only applies the mathematical relationship between the three values; it does not identify the material or correct for laboratory conditions.
