Long Division Calculator

Find the quotient, remainder and decimal result for whole-number division.

Remainder interpretation

Remainders are useful when dividing countable objects. Use the decimal result when fractional units are meaningful.

Example

100 divided by 7 gives a quotient of 14 with a remainder of 2, because 7 x 14 + 2 = 100. As a decimal, the result is about 14.2857.

Common mistakes

The divisor cannot be zero. Also decide whether a remainder or a decimal makes more sense for the problem: 2 leftover boxes may be meaningful, while 2 leftover liters may need a decimal conversion.

Limitations

This page is designed for whole-number division. For fractions, decimals or algebraic division, use a more specific calculator.
