Inclusive vs exclusive counting
Exclusive counting measures elapsed days between dates. Inclusive counting counts both the start and end date, which is useful for some booking, leave and event-counting contexts.
Example
From May 1, 2026 to May 17, 2026, exclusive counting gives 16 elapsed days. If you include the end date, the count becomes 17 calendar dates.
Common mistakes
Decide whether the first and last dates should be counted before using the result for booking, billing, leave or deadlines. Different organizations may define date ranges differently.
Limitations
This calculator counts calendar days only. It does not remove weekends, holidays, school days or business days unless another tool is used for that purpose.
