Unit handling
If side length is in meters, volume is cubic meters and surface area is square meters. Keep all dimensions in the same unit.
Example
If the side length is 5, volume is 5 x 5 x 5 = 125 cubic units. Surface area is 6 x 25 = 150 square units.
When cube volume helps
Use volume for capacity, fill or storage estimates. Use surface area for coating, wrapping or exposed material.
Common mistakes
Volume is measured in cubic units, not square units. If you only need the area of one face, use a square area calculation instead.
